Developing a national approach to the measurement and reporting of pressure injuries
As part of a cross-agency approach to reducing pressure injuries, the Health Quality & Safety Commission engaged Sapere to undertake two components of work:
- Describe the current range of approaches to measure and report on pressure injuries in New Zealand; and
- Support the development of a methodology to assess point prevalence of PIs, which can be used in hospitals, residential care, and ultimately also home care settings.
This report outlines a potential national approach to the measurement and reporting of pressure injuries. It also summarises the work undertaken so far and gives an indicative programme of work over the next one to two years, including methodology development and implementation across district health boards (DHBs) and other health care settings.
