April is a skilled analyst with expertise in the economics of healthcare and education, regulation of natural monopolies, and competition economics. She has first-hand experience of government processes from previous roles at the Ministry of Health and the Commerce Commission, along with experience in the banking and finance sector at ASB Bank.

April holds a MCom in Economics (Distinction) from Victoria University of Wellington, and a BA and BCom majoring in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from the University of Otago. She has also served as a board member of the Government Economics Network, helping to encourage the use of economics in public policy.
